History of race : The race began as a listed race in 1988 moving up to Group 3 in 1995, Group 2 in 1997 and Group 1 from 2004 onwards. It was originally called the Honda Legend, in 1993 the Hong Kong Bank Stakes, followed by the Hardy Bros Classic, Nestle Peters and finally the Myer Classic from 2005 onwards. The 1st running was won by Concordance 1988. A star of the early days was Bonanova winning this race in 1998 and going on to win the Tristarc and the Emirates in 1999. Divine Madonna did similar in reverse winning the Emirates in 2006 and this race in 2007 as well as the 2007 Toorak Hcp.

The Track: Flemington is racing headquarters in Victoria, a spacious track with sweeping turns and a long home straight.
Track Bias, Barriers: The 1600m start is situated at the back of the straight just before a turn, inside barriers are a slight advantage. The rail is usually in the True position for this meeting and most runners will have their chance in the home straight.
