Eagle Farm Barriers Starting Positions:
1000m: Begins at the back of a chute off the course proper on the right hand side of the course. Runners are on a long turn leading into the home straight, inside barriers are an advantage.
1200m: Starts at the back of the course just before a turn. The majority of winners are drawn inside barrier 12.
1300, 1400m & 1500m: With a long straight run down the back of the course to the first turn, barriers are of little importance.
1600m: Begins in a small chute off the back of the course proper. Straight run of around 550m to the first turn, barriers are not important.
1800m: Located just after the winning post on the left hand side of the track. Long turn into the back straight, inside barriers are a slight advantage.
2100m & 2200m: Barriers are placed in the home straight before the winning post. Because of the distance involved, barriers are of no importance.
2400m: Runners must complete a full circuit of the course from this start, barriers are of no importance.
3200m: Only one race over this distance every year, the Brisbane Cup. In recent years winners have started from inside barriers, but this may be coincidental.
Circumference is 2027 metres, length of the home straight is 434 metres. Four wide turns. Horses race in a clockwise direction.
Characteristics: a large course with no sharp turns, very fair for all runners. Not known as a leaders track, winners tend to run on from behind the leading division in the home straight.
